Like Those who Dream {Restoration in 2013}

Fours years ago Kevin and I started a yearly tradition that has been immensely life-giving to our family.  Come January of each new year, we prayerfully ask the Lord for a word for that year {2010~Blessing; 2011~Joy; 2012~Hope}.  Our desire is that each year be marked by what the Lord has done.  It also serves as a stake in the ground at the beginning of each year, an anchor to look back on in the hard moments, and a signpost that continuously points us to Jesus.

As I reflect over the last few years, particularly 2012 as it is freshest on my mind, I remember moments where I had to recall what the Lord had spoken and take hold of His word.  You will find themes of hope throughout my blog entries for 2012, as God brought me back there so often, deepening hope’s meaning for me, inviting me to know Him, my Hope, so much more intimately.

Now it is 2013 and the Lord is, like He always is, doing a new thing.  Officially, 2013 is the year of Restoration.

“When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion,
we were like those who dream.
Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
and our tongue with shouts of joy;
then they said among the nations,
‘The Lord has done great things for them.’
The Lord has done great things for us;
we are glad.

Restore our fortunes, O Lord,
like streams in the Negeb!
Those who sow in tears
shall reap with shouts of joy!
He who goes out weeping,
bearing the seed for sowing,
shall come home with shouts of joy,
bringing his sheaves with him.”

Psalm 126

I cannot predict all that 2013 holds, but this I know: He is repairing the broken places in me.  And from deep in the jungle I will laugh and shout for joy, “He has done great things for me!” And my cry will ring out from the nations.  And I will be like those who dream once again.  And all the places where tears have watered seed, will sprout gardens of joy.

And I am thankful for a God who loves to bestow his goodness.

May you, dear reader, discover too what God is saying for you this year; and may you walk in it fully.  You are loved.

  1. oh yes! one of my very favorite words, RESTORATION! How encouraging to be reminded that our Father delights in bringing restoration to our broken and messed up lives! So fun to watch what God is doing in your little family!
